tenon are expensive to machine and can consume a lot of quality lumber
particularly when manufacturing interior or exterior raised panel doors.

rail and a 12" bottom rail can take up to 5 board feet of high grade lumber.
Doors made from softwoods won't make strong mortise and tenons joints no
matter how you make them.
