Laurier Wood Craft - makers of the Expansible Dowel Pin with a Memory!
Makers of the Expansible Dowel Pin
How do they work?
Dry wood can be compressed and then restored with the addition of moisture.
Expansible Dowel Pins take advantage of this " memory " to rejuvenate their
compressed spiral grooves with the application of water based glue. These
glues are not 100% solids and shrink during curing.

Our pins absorb some of the glue moisture and expand to take up the space left by the shrinking glue, creating an excellent mechanical and chemical bond. All wooden pins expand in contact with water based glues, only Expansible Dowel Pins retain their new size when the glue moisture has dissipated.

Our Expansible Dowel Pins are milled round and slightly oversize, then
grooves are impressed into them creating an accurate, strong, joinery
element. The resulting dowel pins are particularly suited to manufacturing
chairs,  any furniture that is intended to have a long life will benefit.
